Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated during his trip to the US capital that the Russian president's move to request talks with the US president indicates the Kremlin is feeling pressure. He remarked, "It's evident that Moscow is scrambling to resume conversations as soon as it learns of Tomahawks." These remarks referred to earlier musings about supplying long-range weapons to the Ukrainian military.

Political Developments and International Reactions

A former US state department official, a foreign policy expert, observed, "Putin is trying to disrupt the momentum toward greater sanctions on the Kremlin." Fried continued, "We'll see tomorrow, but the likelihood of achieving a ceasefire by pressuring Russia to engage sincerely seem to have diminished."

This development came after the US president had recently been strengthening his rhetoric toward Moscow until Thursday's call with the Russian president, which the Kremlin characterized as "extremely frank and trustful."

European Energy Sanctions and Economic Impact

EU authorities have set a requirement for fuel suppliers into the European Union to demonstrate their fuels are not made from Russian oil, according to a document published on Thursday. This step is included in the European Union's upcoming ban on imports of fuels made from Russian crude, which is included in its 18th restrictive measures against Moscow over its war in Ukraine.

Financial experts observed that investment patterns appeared to be considering the possible end of India's purchases of Russian crude. Some Indian refiners are getting ready to reduce Russian oil imports, with projections of a phased reduction, according to sources familiar with the situation.

"This represents a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a major customer of Russian crude," commented a market analyst, adding that crude values were steady on Thursday.

Security Developments and Energy Attacks

A massive Russian drone and rocket assault targeted gas facilities in Ukraine's eastern regions on the same day, causing disruptions in eight areas. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russian forces deployed numerous of unmanned vehicles and many of projectiles, along with aerial munitions.

"This autumn, the Russian forces use every single day to attack at our energy infrastructure," declared Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that strikes affected the regions of northern Ukraine, eastern Ukraine, Poltava, northeastern Ukraine and Vinnytsia.

Global Diplomatic Reactions

Kyiv's representative to the United States, the Ukrainian ambassador, stated that Russia demonstrated its real approach to peace through the "violence" of such strikes. The proposed system, dubbed the "EU defensive program," is expected to begin working in its first phase by the 2026 timeline and be fully functioning by the following year. EU authorities aims to secure the support of member state representatives at a meeting in the coming days.
