The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as among these.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
