The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes only 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
