The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative near-decade reign which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, now holds roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the Premier League under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead another team in England. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances must arise to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I can still hear Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended regarding Arne Slot, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The forward died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. It was an incredible shock for his teammates also. No one within the club would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
