Individual That Grabbed Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Banned from Singapore
An Australian man who vaulted past a barrier and grabbed celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was sentenced to more than a week in detention for disrupting public order and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to local media.
The man shoved past photographers and charged at the performer and artist, who was participating in the regional launch for the musical adaptation on November 13. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in this summer.
The event caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals claiming he of re-traumatising Grande.
The celebrity has mentioned experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her concert in the English city in several years ago resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
Throughout the court proceedings, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Event security stopped him and held him in place.
Wen later posted recordings expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "at liberty."
Police arrested him the next day and accused him with public nuisance, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge the magistrate was cited by a news outlet as remarking that he was looking for publicity, adding that he was wrong to think he would not suffer any consequences.
The singer has not addressed the case.
Erivo spoke about the incident to a media outlet, remarking that she "only aimed to verify my colleague was protected."
"I'm sure he had no intention to us danger, but you cannot be certain with those things, and I aimed to ensure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she stated.
