Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the actress are demanding that a man who leaped a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage reveals the Australian man bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the actors made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the surprised star away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being detained", though court documents indicated that he was set to be present on the following morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers concert in the city last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further message on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had assembled in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The movie, to be released on November 21, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, earning several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
