Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
